Abstract

Bibliometric studies are valuable tools for analyzing and understanding trends, patterns, and advances in scientific production related to specific topics. Therefore, the objective was to analyze the evolution and trends of scientific production related to financial performance, sectoral economic growth, and financial education through a bibliometric study, in order to identify the main research lines, the most productive countries and institutions, as well as the thematic relationships that underpin business competitiveness and sustainability. Articles published in journals indexed in Scopus between 1984 and 2025 were considered. The Bibliometrix and VOSviewer software were used to conduct the bibliometric analysis, which revealed a sustained increase in scientific production since 2014. English was identified as the predominant language, with publications appearing mainly in high-impact Q1 and Q2 journals. The thematic analysis identified business financial performance as a key axis linking corporate governance, innovation, and sustainability. Financial education was strategically positioned as a transversal variable that strengthens decision-making in risk management and business competitiveness. The analysis confirmed the convergence of institutional, network, and human capital theories, which explain competitiveness as the result of the interaction between internal capabilities and institutional frameworks. A gap in Latin America was identified, highlighting the need for greater regional cooperation for applied research. This work represents a pioneering contribution by integrating the three dimensions into bibliometric analysis, offering a structural perspective on the interrelationship between finance, knowledge, and sustainability.
